Job Title: Port Engineer (Jr. level)

McAllister Towing, a leading provider of tugboat services in New York Harbor, is seeking a highly motivated Port Engineer (Jr. level) to join our team.

About the Role:

The Port Engineer (Jr. level) will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of our existing fleet. This includes developing dry dock specifications, vendor bid packages, and ensuring accurate data entry and filing of accounts payable documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in tracking and ensuring all vessel engineers are properly trained, qualified, and complying with regulatory training and/or certification requirements.
  • Assist with the timely and cost-effective maintenance, repair, modifications, and refurbishment projects of existing fleet.
  • Assist in developing dry dock specifications and vendor bid packages.
  • Assist in collecting and ensuring data entry in the engineer's hard log is accurate and matches up with computer-based preventative maintenance program.
  • Assist with creating purchase orders, work orders, reviewing, and closing out outstanding maintenance jobs.
  • Assist with monitoring the contractor and/or shipyard during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Conduct on-site surveys of vessels and equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs.
  • Analyze problems and interface with appropriate operations personnel.
  • Serve as engineer aboard call-out tugs for the day or specific time frame as designated by the Port Engineer.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a Maritime Academy.
  • USCG Merchant Mariner Credential and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • USCG third assistant engineering license.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a sedentary office environment operating computers, telephones, radios, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and perform repair work that may involve assignments to work beneath machines and close quarters.
  • Frequent stooping and bending required.
Salary and Benefits:

$75,000.00 per year.
