Position Overview:
The University of San Diego is seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Education Specialist to join our vibrant educational community. This full-time role involves working collaboratively with a co-teacher to create a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 5.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to the needs of 12-15 children, aligning with the center's mission.
- Conduct regular observations and document the developmental progress of each child, completing assessments biannually.
- Foster an engaging classroom atmosphere that promotes individual and collective growth, ensuring all children are challenged and supported.
- Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding their child's development and classroom activities.
- Participate in reflective practices with co-teachers and staff to enhance teaching methods and classroom dynamics.
- Guide and mentor practicum and intern students, contributing to their professional development.
- Engage in school-wide events and initiatives as required.
- Manage classroom supplies and maintain inventory, submitting requests as necessary.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, completing a minimum of 21 hours annually.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, with at least 12 units in Early Childhood Education or current enrollment in a related program.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a full-day Child Development Center with children aged 2 to 5.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- Three years of experience in a similar setting.
Physical Requirements:
The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, engage in physical activities with children, and maintain a safe and supportive environment.
