Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team at the Louisiana Department of State Civil Service. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in large office buildings, hospitals, and multi-building complexes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in buildings or complexes requiring total HVAC capacity of 20 tons or more.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on motors, including adding coolant, adjusting controls, changing filters, etc.
  • Recharge air conditioning systems with the proper amount of lubricant or refrigerant.
  • Overhaul and repair pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
  • Report temperatures produced by machines and make necessary adjustments to produce desired temperatures.
  • Install, replace, adjust, and calibrate major components of refrigeration units, including compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
  • Maintain records, log sheets, inventory, etc.
  • Service equipment with lubricants and chemicals.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
  • Training in the installation, operation, or maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems will substitute for the two years of required experience on a month-for-month basis.
  • As of November 14, 1994, employees must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).
