Role Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Design Engineer include:
- Design Services: Deliver tailored project-specific design services, focusing on Contech's bridge products. This includes preparing engineering drawings and calculations, reviewing project plans, and developing solutions to assist in product integration.
- Structural Analysis: Conduct structural analysis and design for bridge components, including superstructures, foundations, and retaining walls.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with in-house engineers, CAD technicians, sales and marketing teams, and external engineers to specify and design Contech's offerings.
- Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to the operations and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate product fabrication.
- Communication: Liaise with field sales staff and manufacturing teams to address inquiries regarding product design, manufacturing, and installation, while also offering technical guidance to the sales and marketing teams and external consultants.
- Quality Control: Review design outputs from team members to ensure precision and inspect in-house fabrication for compliance with design specifications.
- Standards and Training: Uphold engineering standards, policies, best practices, and procedures, while aiding in the development of training materials for products.
- Documentation: Assist in the creation and writing of technical papers and product literature necessary for the support and promotion of Contech's offerings.
- Specification Expertise: Maintain a working knowledge of governing specifications and contribute to their development and modification, potentially serving on technical committees.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with knowledge and certifications in the civil and structural engineering domains, including attending industry trade shows and continuing education.
- Site Visits: Occasional travel to project sites to provide technical support, consultation, and evaluation related to product installations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis.
- EIT certification required; PE or eligibility to take the PE exam within one year of employment is strongly preferred.
- 3-6 years of experience in structural steel or bridge design is preferred, although early-career engineers are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Excel is required.
- Experience with AUTOCAD, finite element analysis, and/or structural analysis software is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to foster and maintain strong relationships with team members and clients.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
