Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nursing Substitute to join our team at Centennial School District. As a Nursing Substitute, you will play a vital role in supporting the school nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of health records for new and withdrawn students, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Support the school nurse with screening procedures, including vision screening, and notify parents of results.
  • Schedule mandated screenings for all students, including dental and physical examinations, and submit required documentation to the business office.
  • Document physician orders for daily medications and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Staff the health office while the school nurse attends meetings, takes a lunch break, or is absent due to emergencies, handling minor issues and referring students in need of school nursing services.
  • Administer oral or inhaled medications, perform immunizations and tuberculin skin tests, and record medication and treatment given as prescribed.
  • Complete required training and maintain certification to administer emergency medications, such as Naloxone and Epi-Pens.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, or use an AED as required, responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid.
  • Report adverse medical conditions of students served through coordination and consultations with the school nurse and administrators.
  • Perform specialized health care procedures, such as glucose testing, catheterization, blood pressure monitoring, oral suctioning, tracheotomy care, gastronomy tube feedings, oxygen therapy, chest percussion, postural drainage, ventilator care, manual manipulation of respirator bag, ileostomy and colostomy care, and seizure precautions.
  • Adjust specialized wheelchairs, lifts, braces, walkers, or other orthopedic devices and position or reposition students in same and remove/replace orthopedic braces/equipment.
  • Accompany students on District transportation, assist in the loading and unloading of students from buses, and supervise students with assigned tasks in and out of the classroom setting.
  • Seek assistance or advice from the school nurse or administration when necessary.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of healthcare procedures and protocols, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

We offer a competitive pay range of $21.92 to $30.68 per hour, with additional compensation considered for highly qualified applicants.
