The Speech and Language Specialist plays a crucial role in providing essential services as specified in each student's Individual Education Program (IEP). This position involves comprehensive planning, oversight, and evaluation of students in alignment with state regulations and the institution's mission, policies, and practices. This role presents a unique opportunity to collaborate within a nurturing educational framework. This is a part-time position at 0.25 FTE.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instructional programs that align with the objectives outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is completed in compliance with legal requirements and school administration guidelines.
  • Conduct in-depth evaluations of students' speech, language, and communication abilities, including the provision of detailed written assessments.
  • Act as a resource for classroom educators on strategies to effectively address the communication needs of individual students.
  • Engage with families to foster a collaborative partnership that supports the school's mission and enhances student success.
  • Contribute to the school's bilingual objectives.
  • Participate in and embrace professional development opportunities, innovations, and advancements in technology.
  • Attend Special Education training sessions as directed by the Director of Special Education.
  • Commit to ongoing personal and professional growth through continuous training in accordance with an approved development plan.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • A valid Speech Pathologist License from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is mandatory.
  • Preferred experience of 3 years in a relevant field.
  • Strong dedication to educational reform, particularly in promoting equity for low-income and linguistically diverse students.
  • Experience working with urban students from Hispanic backgrounds is preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within the school community.
  • Commitment to the specific mission and objectives of Lawrence Family Development Charter School.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven interpersonal, organizational, and planning abilities.
