Job Summary:
The Personal Care Assistant will provide personal care to students with disabilities in a classroom setting. This role requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care to students with disabilities, including repositioning, assisting with communication, and attending to personal needs.
- Implement the Individual Education Program (IEP) in general/separate classroom settings, taking into account the student's age and developmental needs.
- Monitor the safety and well-being of students, including during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Assist students with learning material or skills introduced by the teacher.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence, participating in the development and support of the school's vision.
- Alert the teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
- Maintain confidentiality of information about students, upholding the same high level of ethical behavior as teachers.
- Serve as the chief source of information and support for substitute teachers assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the teacher and/or school administrator.
Work Duration:
The personal care assistant position is hourly and only applies when the student is present at school. If the assigned student is not present, the PCA will not be needed during that time. This position is only funded for the school year, and continued employment beyond the end of the school year is subject to federal or state funding and the needs of the district at that time.
