Under the guidance of the Urgent Care Nurse Manager and under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the Registered Nurse (RN) will be tasked with delivering, delegating, and coordinating nursing care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to San Ysidro Health's policies and procedures in an acute ambulatory care environment. The RN is expected to exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to provide personalized care that ensures the comfort, safety, and welfare of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care to a diverse patient demographic, utilizing knowledge, experience, and judgment to prioritize situations effectively.
  • Engage in staff education, showcasing leadership abilities, and maintaining accountability for personal practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Adhere to San Ysidro Health's Policies and Procedures, Core Values, competencies, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Comply with National Patient Safety Goals and Core Measure Initiatives.
  • Accurately assess patient needs based on initial observations and clinical knowledge.
  • Execute patient care functions, including comprehensive triage processes, primary assessments to determine acuity levels, and initiation of specific interventions or test orders in accordance with nursing protocols.
  • Conduct secondary assessments focusing on medical/surgical history, current medications, social practices, and overall patient status.
  • Perform nursing tasks such as focused assessments based on visit complaints, EKGs, IV access insertion, and administration of medications as per provider's orders.
  • Exhibit knowledge of standard pharmacological agents used in treating various patient conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control measures, sterile techniques, and universal precautions.
  • Assist physicians with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures that may require sterile techniques.
  • Administer inhalation treatments, immunizations, and medications as directed by physician orders.
  • Participate in clinical emergency codes when assigned.
  • Timely report treatment results, observations, and patient complaints to the provider.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and assist within the scope of practice.
  • Document all relevant patient information in the EMR as per established guidelines.
  • Monitor patient responses to treatment and communicate significant changes to the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate hospital admissions or transfers to higher-level care facilities in accordance with regulations.
  • Understand and appropriately utilize the organizational structure and chain of command.
  • Participate in staff development trainings to promote continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring department readiness at all times.
  • Fulfill assigned responsibilities on a rotation schedule as needed.
  • Conduct monthly quality assurance checks on clinic equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Job Requirements:

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of acute care experience within the last three years.
  • Availability for every other weekend and 12-hour shifts.

Experience Preferred:

  • One to two years of urgent care or emergency room experience.
  • Familiarity with NextGen or Epic electronic health records.

Education Required:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program.

Education Preferred:

  • BSN degree and previous emergency department experience.

Certifications Required:

  • BLS/ACLS and PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Possession of a valid California RN license.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers.
  • Demonstrated accountability and professionalism.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with EMR systems.
  • Understanding of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.

Universal Requirements:

Pre-employment requirements include I-9 verification, physical examination, background checks, completion of application, and compliance with all mandated vaccinations and boosters.
