Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Duration: 20 weeks

Shift: 12-hour nights; every other weekend minimum (up to 3 weekends per month), first to float

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required

License: Active RN License

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Must-Have:

  • Recent ICU experience with neuro or cardiovascular (CV) focus
  • Ability to titrate drips

Job Description:

Provide intensive care in a Surgical ICU focused on trauma and neuro-surgery

Work with patients suffering from level 1 trauma, falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents, craniotomies, and other specialized surgeries

Care for patients with critical conditions such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, COVID-19, and strokes requiring thrombolysis (TPA)

Handle common titratable drips, including Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Precedex, Morphine, Dilaudid, Ketamine, Rocuronium, Levophed, Vasopressin, Cardene, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, and Insulin

Interpret telemetry strips as no monitor techs are available on the unit

Self-scheduling available with potential adjustments for unit needs

Required to float to telemetry unit with nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 as needed

Participate in a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation

Dress code: Navy scrubs

Use Cerner as the charting system

24/7 hospitalist or intensivist availability

Respiratory therapist present 24/7 with equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s BiPAP, and Airvo

Expectations:

  • Floating between the Surgical ICU, Medical/Cardiac ICU (36 beds), and a 12-bed overflow ICU
  • This position is suitable for a first-time traveler with the specified experience
  • Prior experience in a similar-sized ICU is preferred
