Responsibilities
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Retail Team Supervisor Trainee assists the Store Team Leader in effectively managing all store operations, including inventory management, merchandising, customer engagement, staffing, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. This role is designed to cultivate the skills of an external candidate for the Store Team Leader position and is intended for a limited duration.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver exceptional customer service to surpass customer expectations, fostering a customer-centric store environment; greet and assist customers, and operate the cash register to process transactions.
- Demonstrate product knowledge and effective selling techniques to enhance the shopping experience. Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized store atmosphere while training team members on best practices.
- Support the Store Team Leader in scheduling staff, providing comprehensive training, conducting safety briefings, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
- Open and close the store at least two days each week.
- Follow established procedures for managing merchandise, including receiving, unpacking, stocking, and creating attractive displays. Ensure product presentation aligns with company standards and Store Team Leader directives.
- Aid in maintaining accurate inventory levels by managing damages, markdowns, and compliance with facility controls.
- Contribute to the financial integrity of the store through strict cash management, key control, and adherence to security protocols; authorize refunds and overrides, count cash registers, and handle bank deposits.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret various documents, including safety guidelines and operational manuals.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations.
- Understanding of cash handling procedures and accountability.
- Competence in operating cash registers and generating reports.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management and creative merchandising.
- Familiarity with safety and security policies.
- Knowledge of recruitment and employee management practices.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Problem-solving skills to navigate diverse situations.
Qualifications
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
- One year of experience in a specialty retail setting is preferred for external candidates.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent walking and standing are required.
- Regular bending, stooping, and kneeling for various tasks.
- Handling merchandise and equipment such as scanners and carts is common.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing using a ladder.
- May require driving for tasks such as bank deposits.
- Fast-paced work environment with moderate noise levels.
- Exposure to various scents and fragrances.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
