Operating Room Nurse

About the Role:
The Operating Room Nurse at Abrazo West Campus is responsible for circulating in the operating room and assisting physicians with advanced tasks or equipment during surgical procedures.
This position requires the ability to work under high pressure in a fast-paced environment, utilizing good interpersonal and communication skills to achieve organizational service goals of customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
The Operating Room Nurse must be able to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice.
This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under their direction.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares for surgical procedures by completing assessment of the patient and reviewing patient chart, diagnostics, and labs. Reports abnormal results to physicians and other appropriate care givers.
- Formulates and initiates plan of care based on patient specific needs and medical plan of care. Plans care in collaboration with members of multidisciplinary team.
- Prepares for surgical procedure by ensuring all appropriate supplies and instruments are available and room set up is appropriate.
- Documents surgical procedure in the patient record. Documentation is timely and in accordance with policy.
- Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
- Ensures that all surgeon preference cards are accurate.
- Assists with OR turnover between cases.
- Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical staff and students, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification.
- One year of operating room experience in the acute care setting.
- Preferred experience: 1 year in Level 1 trauma OR setting.
Work Environment:
Abrazo West Campus is a level 1 trauma center that offers a multi-specialty OR with self-scheduling for regular shifts and call shifts.
