Position Overview:
As an Outpatient Nursing Specialist, you will provide vital nursing assistance to physicians and deliver direct care to patients in a clinical environment. You will act as the primary medical liaison, responsible for screening patients effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Possession of a current, unencumbered license with the appropriate state board of nursing as a practical nurse, or valid multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Certification in Basic Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Core Responsibilities:
The following duties outline the general nature of work performed by individuals in this position. This list is not exhaustive and additional responsibilities may be assigned.
- Deliver direct nursing care to patients in an outpatient medical setting.
- Utilize established standards of care and practice to guide the delivery of nursing services.
- Safely administer medications via intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral routes as prescribed.
- Consult with the Provider or Registered Nurse for guidance in nursing care delivery as needed.
- Seek instruction and supervision from the Provider or Registered Nurse when implementing nursing techniques.
- Perform designated therapeutic procedures for patients as required.
- Accurately observe, document, and report patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress to the Provider in a timely manner.
- Assist Providers and Registered Nurses during examinations and procedures as assigned.
- Utilize available resources efficiently to help manage patient costs.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
- Engage in problem-solving and decision-making within the outpatient unit to ensure staffing and patient needs are met.
- Gather medical information from patients, including height, weight, blood pressure, and vital signs. Screen patients for their primary complaints and relevant health data, documenting findings in the patient's medical record and communicating with the physician.
- Collaborate closely with office staff and physicians to facilitate patient visits, ensuring charts are prepared and escorting patients to and from examination rooms. Assist with scheduling as necessary.

Heavy/Hard Work:
This position requires physical strength and stamina, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, and positioning patients, as well as standing and walking. The ability to carry patients, materials, and equipment weighing over 40 lbs. is necessary on a daily basis.
