POSITION OVERVIEW: This role involves delivering healthcare services in collaboration with licensed medical professionals. The individual will provide a range of medical assistance to patients while adhering to established regulations and institutional protocols. The position requires teamwork with other healthcare practitioners under the direct oversight of a physician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Offer medical support and guidance to patients regarding health concerns as directed by the supervising physician;

- Collect and document the patient's medical and social history accurately;

- Conduct thorough physical examinations and assessments;

- Acquire samples and specimens for laboratory testing and interpret results;

- Formulate diagnoses and recommend treatment plans;

- Administer first aid and perform minor surgical tasks, treatment services, and other medical support functions under physician supervision;

- Evaluate patients to determine the necessity for immediate care or referrals to other healthcare providers;

- Dispense medications in accordance with established guidelines;

- Carry out follow-up evaluations of patients;

- Document orders for diagnostic tests, medications, and specialist referrals;

- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation;

- Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the medical team.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong understanding of clinical practices; proficient knowledge of medical sciences; ability to accurately diagnose and recommend therapeutic interventions; capability to effectively collaborate with supervising physicians; excellent communication skills with colleagues and patients; sound judgment; integrity; proactive approach; and ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a Physician Assistant Training Program recognized by the New York State Education Department or accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or an equivalent program that meets licensure requirements.

NOTE: To be considered substantially equivalent, the training program must include:

  • At least 32 semester hours of classroom instruction; and
  • 40 weeks (1,600 clock hours) of supervised clinical training.
