Maintenance Mechanic I Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled trades maintenance professional to join our team at Monroe One BOCES. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks relating to the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installs, maintains, repairs and rebuilds electrical fixtures, equipment and systems.
- Performs a wide variety of soldering, brazing and welding, sheet metal fabricating or machine shop activities.
- Mixes and lays cement and concrete for walks, steps, floors and foundations, plasters walls, partitions and ceilings, cuts stone, lays bricks and blocks, and performs a wide variety of related masonry and stone cutting activities.
- Prepares, paints and refinishes wood, metal and other surfaces.
- Installs, maintains and/or repairs upholstery, glass, clocks and other miscellaneous items.
- Installs, maintains, repairs and rebuilds heating and air conditioning equipment and systems.
- Installs and repairs carpet, floor and ceiling tile, insulating materials, and roofs.
- Installs, repairs and maintains pumps, presses, furnaces and other waste water equipment.
- Assists in the operation of chemical feed system.
- May be required to complete daily reports.
- Required to perform other related maintenance functions as required.
- Adhere to safety practices and requirements.
Requirements:
- Civil Service eligibility as Maintenance Mechanic I: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus three (3) years of paid full-time or its part– time equivalent experience as a skilled worker in one (1) or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades.
- Complete knowledge of building construction common practices, terminology, and safety precautions.
- Good personal verbal and written communication skills.
- Good attendance and self-directed worker.
- Display a positive attitude.
- Able to work from plans, specifications and rough sketches.
- Able to follow written and verbal communications.
- Five years' experience as a skilled Carpenter.
- Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation) including, but not limited to: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling standing, stooping, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and/or reaching transporting tools, equipment and supplies to job site
