Job Title: Library Clerk

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Clerk to join our team at the Holy Cross Branch. As a Library Clerk, you will play a vital role in providing excellent customer service to our patrons, maintaining the library's collection, and supporting the overall operations of the branch.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain the library's collection, including shelving materials, processing new items, and rotating collections to meet patron demand.
  • Assist with circulation services, including checking out and checking in materials, processing holds and purchase requests, and advising patrons on locating materials.
  • Perform basic reference and readers' advisory services, helping patrons find information and resources.
  • Assist with computer, photocopier, and fax operations, as well as collecting fines and fees.
  • Answer incoming calls, route to appropriate staff, and perform related tasks as required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and experience in a library or similar setting.
  • Bachelor's degree and library experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate a computer, use the internet, and basic software such as Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks and operation of the library management system, and to adhere to library policies and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of library principles, methods, and practices, as well as general knowledge of reader interests and of books and authors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient vision, which permits the employee to prepare and read a wide variety of materials.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, which permits the employee to operate a computer keyboard and other equipment.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, which permits the employee to complete various activities such as lifting up to 35 lbs., bending, kneeling, carrying, walking.
