We are seeking a senior-level substation design engineer to join our team as a High-Voltage Substation Design Lead. This role requires at least 15 years of experience in performing substation design and/or QA/QC, including:

  • Development of general arrangement, equipment plans, elevations, sections, control house layouts, grounding design, conduit and cable design, creation of bills of materials, and cable schedules utilizing Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software.
  • Performing electrical physical design for substations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.
  • Working in a project team environment with engineers and other designers involved in high and extra-high voltage substations.
  • Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.
  • Properly applying client's substation design standards to the work.
  • Holding a high level understanding of SCE and Industry Standards.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the QA/QC team to perform independent quality checks primarily on Physical Design Drawings, however P&C drawing reviews may also be required.
  • Captaining the training and development of junior design engineers while providing constructive feedback on design errors.
  • Preparing and verifying calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application-specific software as required.
  • Overseeing personal task assignments and those of designated team members to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintaining an eye on project execution milestones and schedules to guarantee timely completion.
  • Conducting technical and coordination checking/review of deliverables and other project or study documents.
  • Leveraging good verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and clients.
  • Employing good interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships with team members and clients.
  • Taking ownership of technical adequacy of deliverables designed or checked.
