Job Summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Unit Leader to join our team at Camp Seymour. As a Unit Leader, you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring a group of 8-12 camp counselors, organizing and implementing daily programming, and ensuring the safety and well-being of campers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote a positive and inclusive environment that fosters fun, safety, and YMCA values.
  • Supervise and support campers in your unit, including overseeing meal times, line-ups, and other responsibilities.
  • Connect with each camper to make them feel welcome and included.
  • Evaluate and investigate individual and group situations to effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Identify and support campers who need extra help.
  • Supervise staff placed in your unit, including coaching, teaching, and reinforcing performance standards.
  • Help facilitate daily programming, including overnights, and add creativity and variety to the camp program.
Qualifications
  • A commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Minimum age of 20.
  • Two summers of previous camp staff experience or equivalent.
  • Specialized knowledge of cabin leadership, child development, behavior management, and staff management.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification strongly preferred.
What We Offer

A competitive starting wage of $390 to $460 per week, depending on qualifications. Room and board provided. The opportunity to work in a residential setting and make a positive impact on the lives of campers.
