Position Overview:

The Junior Financial Analyst will undertake various financial responsibilities, including accounting tasks, budgeting, reporting, and administrative support for the agency.

This role may provide the opportunity for remote work within Arizona, depending on the department's operational requirements and consistent achievement of performance standards.

The State of Arizona promotes a work environment that emphasizes flexibility, independence, and trust. Numerous State employees engage in the State's Remote Work Program, allowing them to work from home, in offices, or shared spaces. All work, including remote tasks, should be conducted within Arizona unless a prior exception is duly authorized.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems & Processes:
- Acquire knowledge of State processes to assist in identifying inefficiencies and escalate issues to the Manager.
- Seek efficiencies in workload to enhance productivity, quality, and output.
- Provide visual management metrics to the Manager.
- Present issues and inquiries to the Manager.
- Collect and compile data to monitor performance metrics and deliver updates and reports to the Manager.

Subject Matter Expertise:
- Understand State and internal policies, statutes, and federal regulations concerning grants and fiscal matters, analyze budgets, prepare reports, and highlight key issues related to financial operations.
- Receive guidance from peers and leadership on essential accounting principles and techniques; work on projects and operations while adapting to ensure deadlines are met and reporting is precise.
- Manage tasks and projects related to revenue, reporting, banking processes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, capital improvement accounting, fixed assets, and analysis.

HR Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Manager to complete assigned tasks with some guidance.
- Receive support and training from colleagues for knowledge sharing to develop independent recommendations and problem-solving skills.
- Be proactive and self-motivated to engage with management to enhance knowledge within the team.

Relationship Management:
- Communicate with agency management and other finance team members to ensure open lines of communication within the fiscal team.
- Provide requested information to management for planning and immediate decision-making.
- Actively participate in team meetings and build relationships with Managers, Peers, Customers, and Park Managers.

Operations & Reporting:
- With support from management, complete grants and fiscal projects encompassing revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable, leases, fixed assets, grants, capital improvement accounting, and reporting.

Assist with operational trends and analysis to provide insights to management for informed decision-making.

Other duties as assigned related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of government accounting, grants, internal control structures, and fiscal management; methods and techniques of automated accounting systems, including applicable software; reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, and relevant agency manuals.

Skills in:
- Work organization and accomplishment; analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data; techniques for maintaining accounting records through automated systems; interpersonal skills and knowledge sharing; oral and written communication.

Ability to:
- Collaborate towards common goals; resolve complex issues; analyze situations to identify core problems; work in diverse groups with varying needs; advocate for specific solutions; consider broader implications in decision-making; identify service trends and anticipate future changes.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify) is mandatory for all newly hired State employees.

Eligible for Arizona State Retirement System pension. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment for newly hired State of Arizona employees.
