ChristianaCare is seeking a Registered Nurse II to join our Post Anesthesia Care Surgical Observation Unit. The selected candidate will undergo training in various areas including Prep and Holding, PACU Phase II, and Surgical Observation. Responsibilities will include caring for adult patients who are under observation or awaiting inpatient admission after surgical procedures. This role may involve monitoring patients who require centralized cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring. Care will be delivered through the nursing process in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document thorough clinical assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their hospital stay, adhering to established standards.
  • Identify actual and potential risks to patient safety and health.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust nursing care plans based on patient assessments and diagnoses.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to interventions.
  • Customize educational approaches to meet the learning needs of patients and their families, revising plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate patient and family involvement in the discharge process and informed decision-making.
  • Ensure safe and effective medication management.
  • Respond effectively to patient crises as per unit-specific protocols.
  • Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care, ensuring accurate hand-offs that include patient and family input.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills essential for providing care to patients aged 16 and older, including understanding growth and development.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge base of nursing care specific to the patient population and mentor others in clinical knowledge.
  • Utilize effective communication skills with patients, families, colleagues, management, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to nursing staff based on their capabilities and responsibilities.
  • Encourage contributions from all team members.
  • Engage in professional development by staying current in clinical practices and participating in committees and task forces.
  • Advocate for patients when they are unable to advocate for themselves.
  • Seek resources to aid in understanding and making ethical decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or commitment to obtain within three years of hire.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications required within six months of hire.

The successful candidate may qualify for a sign-on bonus, payable over a specified period.
