POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary objective of this role is to offer guidance and assistance to school leadership, instructional personnel, and support staff in enhancing educational strategies for students requiring tailored approaches to engage with the general curriculum. The Specialist is responsible for creating and delivering professional development initiatives for staff on instructional practices that foster MTSS tier II and III comprehensive involvement in our community school classrooms. The Specialist also provides training for staff in behavioral strategies utilizing the LCSD selected prevention and crisis intervention framework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Leads and facilitates professional development aimed at implementing instruction that addresses skill gaps, offers numerous practice opportunities, and delivers immediate corrective feedback.
  2. Supports school MTSS teams with an emphasis on green, yellow, and red zone interventions and support.
  3. Provides professional development and assistance to school MTSS teams and the Dean of Students in crafting individual student support plans to maintain students in the general education environment through various instructional and behavioral techniques.
  4. Offers training and support for classified staff executing student support plans.
  5. Utilizes school and student referral data to enhance school and district MTSS frameworks.
  6. Guides educators in modifying and adapting strategies for students.
  7. Acts as an advocate for students.
  8. Collaborates with building Level II Teams to ensure process integrity, communication, and comprehensive intervention utilization.
  9. Serves as a liaison between the school and parents regarding placement and instructional matters.
  10. Coordinates staff development programs for classified assistants.
  11. Recommends program equipment and materials.
  12. Advises the Assistant Superintendent on program management based on staff feedback and observations.
  13. Develops and maintains a comprehensive Positive Behavior Support Program.
  14. Establishes and oversees a system for conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans, including training families, caregivers, staff, and community partners to ensure accurate data collection, data-driven decision-making, and program fidelity.
  15. Creates and sustains a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) that incorporates a triage system for timely and effective interventions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  16. Assists parents and community members as necessary.
  17. Strives to enhance and maintain professional competence through ongoing reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other professional development activities.
  18. Works collaboratively with others and communicates effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff.
  19. Operates computer and software programs related to job responsibilities.
  20. Lifts, moves, or restrains a student on an infrequent basis.
  21. Engages in frequent or prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
  22. Participates in frequent and prolonged conversations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  1. This position is primarily conducted indoors within school facilities.
  2. This position necessitates travel between various school and work sites. (The employee is responsible for providing a vehicle for this and other job-related travel and will be reimbursed for approved mileage).
  3. Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student or employee injury or illness.
  4. Evenings and/or extended work hours may be required.
  5. May need to obtain a First Aid and/or CPR Card and serve as a Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider.
  6. Occasionally performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
