Lead Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Surgical Technologist to join our team at UPMC. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, collaborating with a talented team of healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate day-to-day supervision of surgical technicians, ensuring seamless execution of surgical procedures.
  • Assist the Nurse Specialist in supervising the use of supplies and equipment for patient care and safety.
  • Teach new employees and students, sharing expertise and knowledge to enhance their skills and confidence.
  • Modify/revise requisitions (surgeon's preference cards) as needed, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Present in-service training to staff, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Ensure a clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards, and aseptic technique.
  • Have Epro access and ability to order specialty items, streamlining processes and improving patient care.
  • Serve as a resource to other staff members, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assist head nurse by precepting students and new employees, fostering a culture of mentorship and growth.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • A minimum of 4 years or more of Operating Room experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least 3 surgical specialties.
  • Receive a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on last performance evaluation.
  • Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) required.
