Job Title: Instructional Designer I

Join the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service as an Instructional Designer I and contribute to the development of high-quality training programs for law enforcement, forensics, explosives, emergency communications, security, and corrections personnel.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of curriculum experts in developing online and face-to-face courses at the Law Enforcement & Protective Services Excellence Training Division located at the Texas A&M University RELLIS Campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop curriculum for traditional classroom training delivery programs, format content, and graphics using prescribed software.
  • Facilitate working meetings assigned to phased curriculum development efforts.
  • Support the creation of all course objectives, ensure accuracy, completeness, and originality of technical documentation, and create course activities to reinforce all learning objectives.
  • Prepare and submit curriculum drafts for review by the development team, conduct focused reviews of all curriculum materials received for assignment, and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content to ensure standardization.
  • Lead curriculum design teams, promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships among design team members, and work with subject matter experts, instructors, and other design team members to ensure the accuracy and validity of the training design and methodology.
  • Research and structure instructional design projects, establish project scope, timeline, goals, and objectives, research available resources, permissions, and curriculum, and monitor project progress and deliver required reports.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (equivalency: will consider an Associate's degree with two years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles or a High School Diploma or GED with four years of experience in training, curriculum development, and adult learning principles).
  • No experience required with a bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's in Education, Curriculum, Instructional Design/Technology, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker and Photoshop.
  • Experience developing eLearning training materials.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others using a telephone, video conferencing, and/or computer keyboard.
  • Frequent and extended use of standard office equipment to design/develop curriculum.
  • Maintain physical conditioning to perform job functions consistent with setting up and coordinating meetings and development sessions and attending course pilots when needed.
  • Ability to travel independently to other locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects and facilitate working groups.
  • Knowledge of Bloom's taxonomy, instructional design models, adult learning principles, and graphic design.
  • Ability to work in office and design software programs Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others in a positive manner.

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, mouse, multifunctional printer, telephone, fax, copier, scanner, webcam.
