Critical Care Nursing Assistant

Position Overview:
The Critical Care Nursing Assistant plays a vital role in delivering patient care and support services under the guidance of a registered nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits proficiency in executing essential nursing skills as outlined in the Student Nurse Associate Core Competency checklist, ensuring care is tailored to the specific age-related needs of patients.
- Measures and records vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressure, weight, height, and fluid intake-output, documenting oxygen saturation for patients on continuous monitoring.
- Adheres to established infection control protocols, including standard precautions and safety measures, while employing proper body mechanics in all tasks.
- Completes assigned patient care tasks while ensuring comfort and privacy for all patients.
- Identifies patients requiring assistance with nutrition and hydration and provides necessary support.
- Manages the disposal of medical waste and records intake and output accurately.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment for both patients and staff.
- Collaborates with the registered nurse to revise and update care plans as new issues arise.
- Assists in gathering comprehensive nursing histories for assigned patients.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills to foster therapeutic relationships.
- Accurately documents patient records as required.
- Performs basic dressing changes and understands the principles of sterile technique.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions and patient responses, documenting findings each shift.
- Monitors and appropriately responds to changes in patient conditions, reporting significant developments to the registered nurse.
- Records treatments and diagnostic test results clearly and accurately.
- Observes post-treatment patients upon their return to the unit and initiates necessary nursing actions.
- Secures registered nurse signatures for the review and co-signature of all documentation.
- Completes assigned duties with minimal supervision while seeking guidance when needed.
- Communicates feedback and concerns through the appropriate channels, demonstrating cooperation and a positive attitude towards patients and colleagues.
- Exhibits the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required educational assignments annually and participating in quality improvement initiatives as needed.
- Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Must be a student in an accredited nursing program, having achieved junior or senior status, and completed the fundamental clinical skills component of the program.
Minimum Experience: No prior experience required.
Licensure Requirement: CPR certification is mandatory.
