Long Haul Truck Operator

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for operating a commercial motor vehicle to transport goods across state lines or within state borders, ensuring timely delivery between various terminals and relay points.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Long Haul Truck Operator will be tasked with transporting McFarlane products using flatbed and double drop trailers.
Key tasks include:
- Conducting thorough inspections of the vehicle and its essential components to ensure safe operation before departure and throughout the journey.
- Reviewing shipping documents to understand the nature of the cargo and any associated hazards, as well as verifying the load and its securement methods.
- Driving the vehicle in accordance with company policies and all relevant state and federal regulations, adhering to safe driving practices.
- Delivering freight to designated recipients, including oversized loads that require specific permits, while considering unique job site constraints.
- Picking up freight as necessary.
- Loading and unloading freight as required.
- Collecting freight charges as directed.
- Securing loads with chains, straps, and tarps as needed.
- Performing additional related tasks as assigned.
- Ensuring that the vehicle's brakes are set and wheel chocks are placed to prevent movement while loading and unloading.
- Reporting any accidents or incidents involving company equipment.
- Maintaining accurate trip records as required.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including maintaining driver logs and records of fuel purchases and mileage.
- Properly using and caring for all assigned equipment.
- Promptly reporting any delays that may impact pick-up or delivery schedules.
- Regular attendance is essential for this role.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A CDL with a minimum of one year of continuous driving experience. A verifiable driving history for the past three years with a clean motor vehicle record is required.
- Ability to meet all DOT requirements and qualifications.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and verbally communicating simple instructions and correspondence in English.
- Capability to perform all tasks within acceptable quality and time standards.
- Aptitude for multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to address practical problems and adapt to various changing situations.
SAFETY STANDARDS:
Must comply with 49 CFR regulations as applicable; the driver should be able to sit for extended periods in a truck; must be capable of walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, and climbing as necessary for vehicle inspections; safety glasses must be worn in designated areas; must demonstrate accountability for all safety protocols, setting an example for others.
