Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Exercise Physiologist to join our Cardiology team at the Cleveland Clinic. As an Exercise Physiologist, you will play a critical role in conducting all Cardiology exercise testing, coordinating technicians and patients, and providing exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care to adults, utilizing appropriate assessment and interview techniques to identify psychosocial, physical, and educational needs.
  • Modify testing techniques to reflect individual responses and provide teaching specific to adult educational needs.
  • Inspect, clean, calibrate, and maintain equipment according to American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
  • Verify physician orders and perform testing using ACSM/ACC/AHA guidelines for scheduled patients and add-on emergency patients.
  • Act as a resource for Cardiologists on patient education and troubleshooting therapeutic issues related to exercise and cardiac risk factor modification.
  • Utilize computer resources, such as the MUSE, Case Stress system, and EpicCare EMR system, for obtaining EKG readings and reports.
  • Assist Cardiology staff with research projects and quality improvement as assigned.
  • Conduct pre-test entry interviews/consultations with patients and identify test endpoints based on established criteria and guidelines.
  • Perform additional physiologic assessments as required, such as metabolic testing and oximetry.
  • Communicate negative stress results to patients in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times.
Requirements
  • Training in graded exercise testing, EKG analysis and interpretation, and cardiovascular exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation principles.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited school of Exercise Physiology preferred.
  • Clinical Exercise Specialist Certification by American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Membership in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is desirable.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Work Environment

This position requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing, as well as good motor coordination and manual dexterity to operate stress-testing equipment. The position spends 98% of its time in air-conditioned areas, and there is a potential for exposure to infectious wastes, such as blood and body fluids, in clinical duties.

Personal Protective Equipment

This position requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Universal Precautions to prevent exposure to infectious wastes.
