Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Principal IT Architect to join our IT & Digital department. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction and strategy of our IT architecture.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain the architectural vision and strategy for National Grid's technology, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Lead the design of scalable, robust, and secure IT solutions that meet business requirements and support National Grid's strategic goals.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to determine their potential impact on National Grid's business and technology landscape.
- Establish and enforce architectural standards, policies, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency and quality across all technology initiatives.
- Work closely with business leaders, IT teams, and external partners to understand requirements, develop solutions, and drive successful implementation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior architects and other IT professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the security, reliability, and performance of National Grid's IT technology.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience designing systems for use in large scale enterprises.
- 5+ years of hands-on technology development and/or implementation experience.
- Strong technical skills around vendor product selection, software and technology analysis, business analytics, interfaces such as REST, and modern software technologies such as Containers and Microservices.
- Experience with one or more of the TOGAF (or equivalent framework) architectural domains in business, application, data, technology.
- Experience in architectural support of Agile delivery framework and digital product lifecycle.

Salary: $173,000 - $204,000 a year (dependent on location and experience). This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
