As a Physical Therapist at Penn Medicine, you will play a vital role in assisting individuals with medical and functional disabilities to attain and restore maximum function through a patient-centered care approach.

The Physical Therapist will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes defined in the individualized plan of care for each patient.

The Physical Therapist will aid in the implementation of rehabilitation goals and treatment strategies that are concurrent with evidence-based practice while ensuring that patients are treated with utmost dignity, respect, and sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health Teaching/Health Promotion:

The Physical Therapist will provide health teaching using methods appropriate to the situation and to the patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, and ability to learn, language preference, and culture.

Health teaching addresses such topics as:

  • Healthy lifestyles, risk-reducing behaviors, developmental needs, activities of daily living, and preventative self-care.

The Physical Therapist will document the teaching provided and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies used through patient feedback.

Quality of Practice:

  • The Physical Therapist will systemically enhance the quality and effectiveness of occupational therapy practice by participating in Performance Improvement activities and using the results to initiate creative and innovative changes in occupational therapy practice and in the healthcare delivery system.

Assessment:

  • The Physical Therapist will collect and document comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation, in a systematic and ongoing process.

Diagnosis:

  • The Physical Therapist will analyze the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues.

Planning:

  • The Physical Therapist will develop and document an individualized plan of care considering patient characteristics or the situation.

Outcomes Identification:

  • The Physical Therapist will identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation, considering patient cultural values, ethics, environment, and other associated risks, benefits, costs, and current scientific evidence.

Implementation:

  • The Physical Therapist will coordinate implementation of the individualized plan of care and document interventions and any modifications of the identified plan.

Evaluation:

  • The Physical Therapist will evaluate and document progress toward attainment of outcomes, including the patient and others involved in the care or situation.

Accountable for improving patient care through adherence to all patient safety and quality standards, regulations, and best practices.

Participating on committees and councils, and in community outreach activities, and by promoting advancement through professional organizations.

Resource Utilization:

  • The Physical Therapist will effectively utilize resources by evaluating factors such as safety, cost, benefit, and impact on practice by delegating tasks based on needs and condition of patients, potential for harm, complexity of the task, and predictability of outcome.

Collegiality:

  • The Physical Therapist will contribute to the professional development of colleagues through sharing knowledge and skills, providing feedback regarding their practice, and supporting an environment conducive to education of health professionals.

Delegation:

  • The Physical Therapist will know and influence the knowledge and skills of the person to whom they are delegating and may assign selected physical therapist tasks to Physical Therapy Assistants and Aides.

Master's Degree in Physical Therapy - required

Two (2) to four (4) years working as an Physical Therapist - preferred
