Position Overview:
The MRI Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing all magnetic resonance imaging procedures in alignment with established departmental protocols to guarantee optimal patient care services.
Participation in on-call rotation is required.Core Responsibilities:
- Conducts all magnetic resonance imaging examinations following established departmental guidelines.
- Manages the volume of procedures based on patient demand during each shift.
- Ensures accurate patient data and technical parameters are inputted prior to procedure initiation.
- Prepares and administers intravenous contrast agents in accordance with established protocols.
- Performs venipuncture adhering to sterile techniques.
- Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Processes, records, and archives imaging data for evaluation and maintenance.
- Completes imaging documentation promptly as per radiologists' specifications.
- Executes processes to transmit image data to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
- Undertakes all tasks necessary for the successful execution of an MRI examination in compliance with departmental and institutional policies.
- Accepts assignments from supervisors positively and identifies non-routine duties that require attention.
- Maintains an organized and stocked work area and equipment.
- Aids in the transfer of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and imaging tables, utilizing appropriate restraint devices as necessary.
- Participates in on-call coverage as required, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to work varied shifts based on workload demands.
- Completes all required Radiology Information System (RIS) transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure documentation for medical records and billing.
- Reviews materials and exam charges, making corrections as needed.
- Conducts visual inspections of all utilized equipment and reports any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Implements quality assurance measures.
- Provides clear and concise information regarding mechanical issues and service requirements.
- Logs all equipment downtime and notifies relevant personnel as per departmental procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of MRI safety protocols and proper system shutdown procedures.
- Collaborates with hospital staff and physicians during MR procedures to exchange essential patient information.
- Assists in scheduling both routine and emergency examinations.
- Handles inquiries with professionalism and efficiency.
- Communicates any identified patient-related issues through the appropriate channels.
- Demonstrates proficiency in performing all procedures across a diverse age range, from neonates to geriatrics.
- Capable of explaining procedures to patients, prioritizing their comfort, and understanding their emotional responses post-procedure.
- Respects patient privacy and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Ensures patients meet safety criteria for MRI scans.
- Monitors patients for signs of anxiety or clinical distress.
- Adheres to a professional code of ethics.
- Assists in identifying patient and family educational needs, providing relevant information regarding procedures tailored to age and comprehension levels.
- Evaluates patient history for MRI suitability.
- Offers verbal education about the procedure that is appropriate for the patient's age and understanding.
- Completes all necessary documentation as mandated by the department.
- Timely completion of incident and risk management forms.
- Ensures all patient education and discharge documentation is completed promptly.
- Fulfills all documentation requirements within the MRI department for patient logs, education, and history.
