This role involves supporting the Dockmaster in managing the marina's daily operations. Flexibility to work during odd hours, weekends, and holidays is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Independently manage various marina operations under the Dockmaster's general guidance.
  2. Responsible for fee collection and the allocation of docking and anchoring spaces.
  3. Safely conduct pump and tender operations as necessary.
  4. Assist in managing reservations and processing fees with professionalism and courtesy.
  5. Support the Dockmaster in maintaining the docks, facilities, and grounds, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  6. Consistently uphold cleanliness across the marina, including public and boater restrooms.
  7. Regularly empty trash receptacles and remove litter and debris.
  8. Demonstrate strong customer service and public relations skills.
  9. Assist with the docking and departure of vessels, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  10. Monitor marina activities and the status of incoming, outgoing, and moored vessels.
  11. Contribute to the maintenance and repair of floating docks and gangways.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Understanding of customer service principles and practices.
  2. Familiarity with records management principles.
  3. Proficiency in computer applications and relevant software.
  4. Basic knowledge of power tools.
  5. Ability to learn boating terminology and dock regulations.
  6. Basic skills in boat handling.
  7. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.

SUPERVISION

The Dockmaster provides general instructions for work assignments, with oversight to ensure compliance and accuracy.

GUIDELINES

Work is guided by city and departmental policies, which may require interpretation in specific situations.

WORK COMPLEXITY

  • Work involves customer interactions and familiarity with nautical terms and vessel operations.
  • The purpose of this position is to facilitate the effective operation and maintenance of the marina.

CONTACTS

  • Interactions typically occur with the public, fellow employees, and other city staff.
  • Contacts are primarily for service provision, information exchange, or problem resolution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Willingness to work during odd hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work is predominantly outdoors in various weather conditions, requiring prolonged standing and the ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Swimming ability is necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in marina or boating operations is preferred.
  • Any combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge is acceptable.
  • A valid state driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated is required.
  • Experience in customer service is advantageous.
