Job Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician 2 at the Arizona Department of Economic Security, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient distribution of medications to patients. This position requires strong technical, clerical, and distributive pharmacy skills, working under the direction of a licensed pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs accurate calculations for compounding and order processing.

• Communicates effectively with patient care units to ensure timely medication distribution.

• Prepares total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other medications for injectable therapy, as trained.

• Performs bulk compounding and repackaging activities in accordance with pharmacy guidelines and regulations.

• Delivers medications to patient care units and processes returns.

• Processes floor stock, including automated distribution and stock carts.

• Fills unit dose carts or ADM for patient medication distribution.

• Provides general assistance and support to pharmacist staff, including filling orders, answering phones, and preparing labels.

• Restocks pre-hospital care boxes and other kits.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Answers and triages phone calls appropriately, reviews voicemail messages, and maintains emails to stay updated on changes or issues.

• Assures ADT notification handling and processes patient charges and credits.

• Distributes and processes controlled substances appropriately.

• Processes, receives, and correctly distributes wholesale orders to inventory.

• Assists new technicians with their orientation and training.

• Maintains knowledge of downtime procedures.

Compliance and Safety

• Reports safety-related incidents in a timely manner through the Midas/RDE tool and attends safety-related training programs.

• Performs work in a safe manner, monitors the work environment for possible safety issues, and ensures others perform work safely.

• Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

• Stays current with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies impacting the employee's area of responsibility.

• Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

• Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

• Completes assigned station checks thoroughly each month and as needed.

• Demonstrates initiative to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills required for the unit.

• Demonstrates working knowledge of pharmacy law pertaining to the control, monitoring, and distribution of medications, including controlled substances.
