Job Summary

Merrimack College seeks a highly skilled and detail-oriented Police Dispatcher to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, responding to emergency situations, and maintaining accurate records and logs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and operate various radio frequencies, dispatching department personnel and other college staff as needed.
  • Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing clear and concise information to the public and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and logs of shift activity, including incident reports and dispatch records.
  • Operate multiple computer systems, including the police computer-aided dispatch and report management program, CJIS, and E911 call notification system.
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to inquiries and concerns from the public, college staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure effective communication and response to emergency situations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to obtain ENS certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and maintain it as a condition of employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of police dispatching practices and procedures, with a willingness to stay up-to-date on current practices and maintain department-sponsored training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in police dispatching or a related field.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software, including MS Office and Google Apps.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and public safety.
