Work Environment
The NRO Office of Security and Counterintelligence (OS&CI) is dedicated to ensuring mission support through ongoing development, management of policy-driven guidance, and safeguarding our assets. A vital aspect of OS&CI's mission is to maintain a trusted workforce. To support this objective, the NRO is seeking skilled Polygraph Examiners for its Polygraph Management Branch (PMB), which serves as a critical resource for the Personnel Security Division (PSD) in adjudicating access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) within NRO's highly sensitive operational framework.
These roles are classified as Security Specialists (Polygraph Examiner) and involve conducting operational counterintelligence (CI), counterespionage (CE), and personnel security polygraph examinations. The positions require extensive knowledge and experience in the technical field, as they encompass a wide range of complex assignments and non-routine situations.
All polygraph examinations necessitate thorough case file analysis, interviewing, information elicitation, and report writing.
The NRO Cadre is currently gathering resumes for consideration for existing and future opportunities in Chantilly, VA for Full Performance level (GG-11 to GG-13), Security Specialist (Polygraph Examiner), occupational series 0080.

Responsibilities
Achieve and maintain federal polygraph examiner certification. Conduct polygraph examinations for individuals requiring access to TS/SCI information, which may include interviewing high-profile examinees on sensitive security matters. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards during polygraph examinations, upholding the security and ethical requirements of the NRO. Provide briefings to leadership on significant cases. Collaborate with fellow polygraph examiners and supervisors for updates and guidance. Review security and supporting documents to determine the best approach for polygraph testing. Engage in special projects and initiatives, performing unique assignments as needed. Safeguard classified materials through sound security practices. Apply relevant DoD Directives, ODNI policy, and NRO Directives regarding polygraph and personnel security.
Qualifications
Candidates not federally trained and certified must successfully complete the twelve-week Psychophysiological Detection of Deception (PDD) training at the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA). Admission requires U.S. Citizenship, a minimum age of 25 (may be waived), a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, and at least two years of investigative experience (may be waived). Successful completion of a Counterintelligence Security Polygraph (CSP) examination is also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Skills in applying analytical techniques to identify and resolve program policy and operational issues. Ability to prepare reports and deliver briefings on various program activities. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Relevant experience must be clearly demonstrated in your resume.
Desired Qualifications:
Highly Desired: Current federally certified Polygraph Examiner. Experience as a polygraph examiner in the private sector. Background in interviewing and information elicitation from diverse sources.
Additional Information
Overtime may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel may be necessary for temporary duty assignments. Financial Disclosure may be required upon appointment and annually thereafter. Geographic Mobility Agreement may apply for mission effectiveness and career development. Certain positions are deemed emergency essential, requiring incumbents to meet all position requirements.

GG-11: $82,764 - $107,590
GG-12: $99,200 - $128,956
GG-13: $117,962 - $153,354
Upon successful completion of PDD training at NCCA:
Salary range for the Chantilly, VA area:
GG-11: $86,950 - $113,032
GG-12: $104,217 - $135,478
GG-13: $123,928 - $161,111
**These positions are Full Performance DCIPS roles. The NRO is accepting applications from U.S. Citizens and current Federal Government employees for these positions. To qualify, federal employees must currently be at the GG-11, GG-12, or GG-13 level and may only apply for a lateral reassignment at their current grade level and step.**
Hiring Incentives

Trial Period
All new hires will be required to serve a two-year trial period.
