Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in the ambulatory setting, utilizing the nursing process and adhering to role/scope of practice.
  • Perform preliminary assessments of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluate unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention.
  • Implement appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrate the use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.
  • Accept accountability and use independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
  • Use standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.
  • Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care, and/or research findings. Seeks assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient acuity and available resources.
  • Uses established patient care support systems, including documentation, communication, and information.
  • Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with healthcare needs.
  • Identifies teaching/learning needs of patients.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and makes documentation in patient charts.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan.
  • Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
  • Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
  • Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the healthcare team. Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
  • Demonstrates skill in the management of conflict situations.
  • Functions to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
  • Engages in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment.
  • Interacts with various members of the healthcare team to meet patient care needs.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Current West Virginia licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse or a Graduate Nurse with a current West Virginia temporary practice permit.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred OR Associates of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma, currently enrolled in a BSN program and BSN completed within 5 years of hire preferred.
