Overview

The Cardiovascular Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing interventional cardiology, vascular, electrophysiology, and hybrid operating room procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Interaction
* Reviews and verifies requisitions for examinations and pertinent information (procedure requested, special notes/comments, and patient condition).

Examines worksheets and patient questionnaires related to the examination prior to initiation.

Conducts patient interviews before procedures to gather medical history/information and documents all relevant details in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Clarifies the procedure to be performed to secure consent and cooperation while alleviating patient anxiety.

Addresses patient concerns regarding radiation exposure.

Safely transfers patients to the examination table, ensuring proper clothing and coverage.

Exhibits the ability to place immobilization/supportive devices for patient comfort and accurate positioning.

Ensures that lead shields/protective clothing are correctly positioned and adjusted for staff and providers.

Maintains patient comfort while achieving the desired outcomes.

Provides clear breathing instructions and continually guides patients during procedures.

Evaluates digital images for quality and performs quantitative assessments.

Assesses patient conditions to determine appropriate exposure factors for each test, calculating the necessary voltage, current, and exposure duration.

Demonstrates expertise in collimation; adjusts the cone as needed to produce high-quality images.

Receives and communicates physician orders to the registered nurse for inclusion in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR).

Assists in conducting procedures (cardiovascular, vascular, electrophysiology, and hybrid).

Exhibits the ability to initiate and maintain intravenous and intra-arterial access.

Manages and removes peripherally inserted central catheters.

Implements manual and mechanical hemostasis techniques.

Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing closure devices.

Identifies cardiac rhythms accurately.

Participates in the physiological monitoring of patients.

Offers support to patients and families by communicating the need for referrals (e.g., social services, case management).

Provides and documents education for patients/families and the healthcare team.

Records in EMR and communicates to the healthcare team regarding patient interventions, responses, and status changes.

Education
* Educates and supervises students and other healthcare providers.

Compliance and Safety
* Responsible for timely reporting of any safety-related incidents through the designated reporting tool; participates in all safety-related training programs; performs work safely; monitors the work environment for potential safety issues and ensures compliance among colleagues.

Stays informed and adheres to state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that affect the employee's responsibilities.

If applicable, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are current and valid prior to expiration.

Completes all mandatory company training modules and job-specific training within the required timeframe.

Archives images according to established protocols.

Qualifications

Education
Associate of Science degree in Radiological Technology - Required

Bachelor's degree - Preferred

Certifications and Licenses
MRTBE, ARRT - Required

BLS (American Heart) - Required

ACLS (American Heart) - Required

CI, VI, RCIS - Preferred

Employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies as assigned by their departmental leader.

Experience
Two years of experience as a general radiographer or six months as a certified specialist - Preferred

Healthcare is a rapidly evolving field, and technology is integrated into nearly all aspects of patient care. Proficiency in using computers and basic software programs is essential across the organization and within each department.
