Key Responsibilities- Support clinical telehealth encounters for both patient and provider locations, serving as a telepresenter and imager as needed.
- Prepare the clinical environment, including setting up medical and telecommunications equipment for clinical examinations and treatments.
- Take measures to ensure patient care is delivered safely, following appropriate procedures for cleaning clinical equipment and maintaining a safe care environment.
- Complete standardized clinical questionnaires and templates within scope of training and applicable guidelines.
- Ensure patient privacy is protected by complying with all information security and patient privacy regulations.
- Screen patients for telehealth modality and refer patients who do not meet established criteria to appropriate care.
- Monitor and maintain schedules of rooms, patients, technologies, clinical providers, and presenters to ensure efficient telehealth operations.
- Provide patient education via approved materials and support the Veteran in completing patient satisfaction surveys.
- Communicate effectively with clinical and administrative staff at the assigned local site and those located at remote sites of care.
- Configure, install, troubleshoot, clean, and perform minor routine maintenance of assigned telehealth technology.
- Ensure assigned telehealth technologies are secured, ready for use, and accounted for by preparing and tracking maintenance work orders, information systems, inventory records, and communicating with the National Telehealth Technology Help Desk as necessary.
- Provide established education and training to Veterans and clinicians on the use of telehealth technologies and serve as a point of contact to answer questions and address concerns related to these technologies.
- Maintain knowledge of and skill in applying an extensive body of rules, procedures, and operations in telehealth-related technologies and a variety of computer hardware and software used for telecommunications, data entry and retrieval, record maintenance, document and report generation.
- Maintain regular contact with more experienced staff members and the Facility Telehealth Coordinator to work out process issues, equipment needs, problems, data collection, and any other logistical issues.
- Arrange and complete test video calls with Veterans to prepare them for clinical encounters using telehealth technologies.
- Ensure information and resources are maintained for local and remote telehealth providers so they can effectively execute contingency and emergency plans.
- Independently plan the work, resolve problems, carry out successive steps of assignments, and adjust using accepted standard operating procedures or practices.
- Handle problems and/or deviations that arise in accordance with established policies, regulatory and administrative guidelines, directives, instructions, and accepted practices in the occupation.
- Refer new or controversial issues to the supervisor for direction and/or assistance.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Experience and Education: One year of experience in a health care field that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work, such as a medical or clinical assistant (or technician) or health technician.
- English Language Proficiency: A candidate will not be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English.
- Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical), GS-5 (Entry Level): This is an entry-level Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical) position. It is expected that the Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical) receive guidance from more experienced staff members and require frequent and direct supervision.
- Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical), GS-6 (Full Performance Level): One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) in areas such as comprehensive knowledge of computer systems and programs, ability to communicate and interact with other members of the healthcare team, and ability to plan and organize work.
