Job Summary:

The State of Oregon is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician 2 to join our team at the Portland Forensic Laboratory. As a Laboratory Technician 2, you will be responsible for performing support duties for analytical staff, including reagent preparation and testing, quality control checks of instrumentation and equipment, and maintaining accurate records and other logs for accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine, standardized analytical tests and laboratory procedures in accordance with well-defined written instructions.
  • Prepare and test reagents, and maintain accurate records and logs for accreditation.
  • Conduct quality control checks of instrumentation and equipment, and perform maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Inventory and order chemicals, supplies, and equipment, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance, and maintain cleanliness in the laboratory.
  • Work to mitigate issues in the facility, and provide support to analytical staff as needed.

Requirements:
  • Two years of experience performing routine, standardized analytical tests and laboratory procedures in accordance with well-defined written instructions.
  • High school courses in chemistry, biology, mathematics, or any course which included laboratory work.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related field may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Skills:
  • Demonstrated general lab knowledge, including the preparation of solutions, working with scientific instrumentation, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Experience supporting a professional program, working independently and as part of a team without direct supervision.
  • Problem-solving abilities, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse team.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond in a professional manner under stress.
