Position Summary
The 2nd Class Welder will be responsible for executing various welding tasks on structural plates and 6G pipes using SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW techniques. A willingness to cross-train in multi-functional structural and piping assembly processes is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret job-specific WPS/PQRs and proficiently set up machines for performance in all positions according to certified testing standards.
  • Analyze blueprints for weld insignia and apply them to assembly components within piping and structural systems.
  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding by accurately measuring, cutting, and fitting materials as per job specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspections of pre and post-welded surfaces and utilize precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with job requirements.
  • Identify insufficient weld criteria and possess the knowledge to effectively blend and repair as necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills while adhering to instructions.
  • Ensure accountability for daily work assignments while maintaining quality, safety, and health standards.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, and be physically qualified to wear required PPE in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Prepare for ISO 9001 and other audits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in threading, grinding, welding, brazing, rigging, plasma cutting, and gas arc cutting.
  • Relevant experience or training is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Over 6 years of experience in SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding techniques, or a combination thereof.
  • Two years of vocational technical training.

Work Environment
This role operates within a fabrication facility. Employees may encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Exposure to various extreme conditions at construction job sites may occur, and the noise level can be high.

Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to perform essential functions, including frequent standing, walking, and using hands for handling materials. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required occasionally, along with specific vision abilities.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with first shift hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and second shift hours from Monday to Thursday, 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary based on job demands.

Travel Requirements
Local travel during business hours may be required, but extensive travel is not anticipated.
