Medical Technologist I

Join UNC Health Care as a Medical Technologist I and become part of a dynamic team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. As a Medical Technologist I, you will play a vital role in the clinical laboratory, performing a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks to support the clinical activities in the UNCHCS.


Responsibilities:

  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments to improve laboratory operations and patient care.
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees to ensure a smooth transition and high-quality patient care.
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the laboratory to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests, and provide accurate data to healthcare providers.
  • Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required to ensure accurate test results.
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results to ensure accurate and timely communication.
  • Review test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Requirements:

  • Requires Bachelor's of Science degree in a related field, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
  • No prior experience required.
