Craft Beverage Technician

As a Craft Beverage Technician, you will engage in all activities related to the brewing and maturation of premium beverages. This role operates on a continuous schedule with rotating shifts of 8 hours, including day, swing, and night shifts. Flexibility for overtime may be necessary to meet production demands or address staffing shortages. Due to the nature of the position, designated meal breaks are not assigned; meals will be taken as time permits during shifts.

• Efficiently manage both manual and automated brewing processes, including grain handling, filtration, CO2 management, and grain drying operations.
• Implement and uphold rigorous sanitation protocols in accordance with food safety standards, which include tank and equipment cleaning, proper food storage, personal hygiene, and quality assurance practices.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.
• Execute operational procedures that align with the standards and recipes of Alaskan Brewing Company to meet quality and production objectives.
• Work independently, effectively organizing workflow while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
• Conduct laboratory analyses as required.
• Keep comprehensive and precise logs and records of brewing activities.
• Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or irregularities to the maintenance team.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of the operational equipment within the brewhouse and cellar, including pumps, valves, filters, and centrifuges.
• Perform additional duties as necessary, collaborating with team members across various brewery departments.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering communication and cooperation across departments.
• Capability to articulate brewing-related issues to other departments as necessary.
• The brewing process involves repetitive tasks and the use of potentially hazardous equipment and chemicals in a noisy setting.
• This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to work independently and under time constraints.
• Maintaining cleanliness in work areas is essential to uphold food quality standards.

• Capacity to maneuver pallets of beer weighing up to 2,100 lbs using a pallet jack or forklift.
• Ability to stack 40 lb cases and lift kegs weighing up to 170 lbs.
• Capability to repetitively lift heavy items, such as 60 lb bags of malt and beer hoses.
• Proficiency in safely operating a forklift and handling heavy materials.
• Ability to work in cold and wet environments.
• Experience handling hazardous materials, including acids, bases, and sanitizing agents.

• Understanding of brewing theory and practice.
• General knowledge of beer processing and handling throughout fermentation stages.
• Preferred experience of 1-2 years in brewing; homebrewing or brewing education may substitute for formal experience.
• Ability to make informed, independent decisions based on scientific and mechanical data.
• Proficient in maintaining clear and accurate records, noting any recipe discrepancies as they arise.
• Strong computer skills are essential.
• Ability to safely handle hazardous materials, including acids, caustics, and sanitizers.
• Capability to work safely with CO2 gas.
• Ability to plan and organize complex tasks while effectively communicating with other brewers and management.
• Willingness to follow daily instructions and work plans as outlined by management.
• Experience with process control systems and ERP systems is advantageous.
