About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Hood Container Corporation, a leading manufacturer of containerboard and Kraft paper products. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our production equipment and machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, using precision measuring and testing instruments to diagnose problems.
  • Remove and replace defective parts, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, and inspecting parts for quality and accuracy.
  • Adjust and calibrate functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Monitor and control downtime, informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories, checking stock levels and anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provide mechanical maintenance information to production workers and management, answering questions and requests.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Excellent troubleshooting and installation skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic conveyor systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Possess basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English.
  • Basic knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, and plumbing.
  • Skilled in repairing mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Bears professionalism to work in a team environment.
  • Proper use of all hand and power tools, including multi-meters, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Observe products quality to determine problems.
  • Knowledge of three-phase wiring and electrical and pneumatic switches.
  • Understanding of PLC and CPU systems.
  • Ability to identify all bearings and their placement.
  • Ability to perform machine rebuilds with little to no supervision.
  • Install and align closed gear drives.
  • Maintain safety guards.
  • Fabricate hydraulic lines.
  • Neat and clean workstation.
  • Perform proper Lock Out procedures.
Working Conditions

This position requires standing and walking up to 2/3 of the time, with occasional sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or touch, talking or hearing more than 2/3 of the time. The individual must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. The work environment is fast-paced, with exposure to hot and/or humid and cold conditions, as well as fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, and louder than normal environments.

Education and Experience

A post-high school diploma and at least three (3) years of previous experience in a corrugated production plant or eight (8) years of industrial maintenance work in a manufacturing environment are required.
