Salary Range: $3,721 - $6,071 per month
The expected salary range for this role is $3,900 - $4,091 per month, with final compensation based on qualifications and experience.
About the Role:
Under the general guidance of the Director of Facilities Services, the Horticultural Services Specialist will engage in a diverse range of gardening tasks across the campus. Responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining tools and equipment, preparing and caring for turf areas, executing horticultural spray applications, and managing plant propagation and nursery work. The role also involves ensuring cleanliness of the grounds by removing trash and debris, along with performing general gardening duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support turf maintenance through various cultural practices such as mowing, verticutting, aerification, and overseeding.
- Install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems, including pipes, sprinklers, and drainage systems.
- Apply chemicals for pest control, weed management, and fertilization of plant materials.
- Execute landscaping installations, including trees, shrubs, flowers, and sod.
- Prepare soil for planting and ensure proper watering of plants and turf.
- Operate automotive equipment as necessary to fulfill assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in grounds maintenance and landscaping installation, with at least one year focused on irrigation systems.
- Experience in equipment maintenance and operation.
- Possession of a valid California Department of Pesticide Regulation license for pest control work within one year of hire.
- Valid California driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of landscaping methods, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to identify and address plant diseases and nutrient deficiencies.
- Capable of preparing sketches and providing recommendations for landscaping improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
General Information:
- Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory, and employees will be enrolled in the DMV Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical exam, including the ability to lift over 50 lbs.
