The Breast Imaging Specialist is tasked with identifying breast tissue irregularities by performing mammographic imaging studies and presenting findings for diagnosis. Responsibilities include:
- Welcoming patients by verifying their identity, reviewing imaging requests, checking for specific instructions, and confirming the expected service with patients.
- Encouraging patient cooperation by alleviating anxieties, providing clear explanations of imaging procedures, describing equipment, and addressing any questions.
- Conducting mammography studies by positioning breasts, adjusting compression mechanisms, instructing patients to hold their breath, retreating to a lead-protected area, setting exposure parameters, activating equipment to capture images, releasing compression mechanisms, and preparing for subsequent positioning and views.
- Minimizing radiation exposure to patients and staff by adhering to radiation protection protocols.
- Maintaining the quality and production of mammograms by following established standards and procedures, developing mammograms, reviewing results, making necessary adjustments for optimal outcomes, and reshooting mammograms as needed.
- Ensuring the functionality of mammography equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, coordinating repairs, and managing equipment inventories.
- Keeping mammography supplies and patient gowns readily available by monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and managing laundry.
- Upholding a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to and enforcing established standards and procedures.
- Documenting patient mammogram services by accurately completing patient record charting.
- Enhancing job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities, reading professional literature, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
• Current BLS certification
• Successful completion of formal Radiologic Technology training from an AMA-approved institution and ability to meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
• Certification in Mammographic Radiologic Technology.
Position Type
Full-time, Monday to Friday.
