GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role involves executing advanced (journey-level) maintenance and construction tasks, focusing on park operations, upkeep, and visitor services at Eisenhower State Park. Responsibilities include comprehensive maintenance of facilities, structures, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. The position requires the operation of various machinery, including power mowers, tools, tractors, and other gasoline-powered equipment.

Additionally, this role entails providing customer service, issuing park permits, and handling fee collection duties. The Maintenance Specialist III will oversee the work of community service workers, volunteers, and other alternative workforce members. The position also includes enforcing park regulations, performing resource management tasks, and interpreting the park's natural resources.

This position operates under general supervision, allowing for moderate independence and initiative. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, and compliance with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience: A minimum of three years in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance.

Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State driver's license within 30 days of employment.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience: Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Experience in public interaction, customer service, and/or public relations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Proficient in basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

Familiarity with general maintenance techniques and custodial duties.

Competent in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to operate hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.

Strong customer service skills, maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Capable of making independent, sound, and timely decisions.

Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Competent in handling cash and accounting for collected revenue.

Adaptable to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

Ability to assist in enforcing park rules and regulations.

Physical capability to perform manual labor, including grounds, facility, and trail maintenance.

Knowledgeable in the safe application of pesticides and herbicides in accordance with State regulations.

Physically able to lift supplies and materials up to 80 lbs.

Conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park environment with overnight camping and day use.

40 hours per week, including flexible schedules outside of standard hours.

Must be prepared to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

Work is primarily outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Compliance with TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures is mandatory.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
