Job Summary:

As a Computed Tomography Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide patient services using imaging modalities. You will perform a variety of Computed Tomography procedures on patients of all age categories, evaluating images for technical quality and exercising professional attitude and judgment in the performance of duties. You will also provide patient care essential to Computed Tomography procedures and recognize patient conditions requiring immediate action, initiating life support measures as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws. Be responsive to the needs of others by maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers. Identify the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and make accommodations for such differences. Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served. Exercise clinical judgment that conforms to established standards. Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner. Observe all organizational, regional, medical service area, and Diagnostic Imaging department policies and procedures. Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service. Utilize effective communication skills. Demonstrate professional behavior/conduct in all interactions with patients and staff. Meet productivity norms achieved by peers within the department. Maintain equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with department guidelines.

Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

Explain procedure to the patient, verify patient history, and confirm appropriateness of ordered exam/procedure. Select appropriate software for the exam, utilizing a variety of software programs based on imaging principles, area of interest to be demonstrated, and patient conditions. Enter data such as type of scan requested, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical factors into computer. Position and immobilize patient in order to obtain diagnostic image(s) of area of interest. Administer contrast media orally or assist radiologist in intravenous administration. Recognize adverse reactions or changes in patient condition and react appropriately. Observe all standards for radiation safety/protection in order to minimize dose. Utilize scanning techniques, select best plane, acquisition method, parameters to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology in studies such as those performed for the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal. Modify protocols as indicated by presence of pathology or trauma. Perform special procedures such as 3-D studies, biopsies, drainage, and aspiration, post myelography, CT arthrography, CT angiography, cardiac gating, and interventional CT. Evaluate images on video display screen for diagnostic quality and presence of artifacts. Evaluate videotapes and computer-generated information for technical quality. Take corrective action as indicated to ensure image quality. Photograph/film images/scans utilizing appropriate window/level settings and formats. Archive images and data.
