A competitive salary of $80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on location and experience, is offered to successful candidates.

Job Purpose:

The Environmental Health Specialist will partner with plant management to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures. This role requires leadership, technical support, and regular audits to verify the effectiveness of implemented programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and continuously improve safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Provide training, education, and technical support for effective deployment of safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with plant management for regulatory audit success and hazardous waste management planning
  • Measure and monitor overall safety and environmental performance, identifying areas for improvement
  • Understand and stay updated on federal and state occupational safety and health regulations
  • Support departments in eliminating potential injury or exposure risks
  • Develop an emergency response team, conduct drills, and ensure equipment readiness
  • Work with plant leadership to set safety goals, create plans, and track KPIs
  • Drive zero incident culture and employee engagement through accident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Maintain safety data processes, analyze data, and coordinate the safety effort for continuous improvement
  • Conduct internal facility safety audits, detect risks, and recommend corrective actions
  • Evaluate non-standard tasks, identify risks, and suggest control measures
  • Ensure contractors have effective safety processes in place through pre-qualifications and monitoring/auditing
  • Partner with HR on workers' compensation programs and transitional duty return-to-work initiatives
  • Foster team responsibility for achieving goals and support food safety program, quality standards, and manufactured product legality through adherence to plant GMPs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management or equivalent work experience
  • OSHA certification preferred
  • Familiarity with state environmental regulations preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in implementing and sustaining safety programs
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing facilities
  • Extensive working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes, and implementation strategies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer-based applications
  • Ability to develop, conduct, and maintain training programs using lecture, PowerPoint, or practical methods
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills with a desire to drive positive change and deliver results

  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems
  • Ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
