Job Summary:

The Paraprofessional Assistant will provide support to teachers in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole. The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
Work with individual exceptional or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work with emotionally impaired students.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee must work with public and other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.

Terms of Employment:

Length of contract and salary will be established by the Board. Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Professional Personnel.
