Job Overview:

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for capturing x-ray images of specific areas of the human body for diagnostic evaluation, while providing essential support to the imaging department. This role focuses exclusively on plain films and fluoroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicates procedures to patients to ensure clarity and understanding, providing relevant educational resources.
  • Facilitates patient transport to and from clinical areas, verifying patient identity in accordance with established protocols. Aids in preparing patients for radiological examinations by positioning them appropriately.
  • Assists in managing patient reports and charts, ensuring accurate matching of films to folders and timely delivery of reports to medical units and physicians.
  • Adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Monitors patients during procedures, reporting any unusual activity and suggesting protocol updates as necessary.
  • Ensures high-quality submission of all images and documentation to PACS, including proper lead markers and patient data.
  • Maintains equipment functionality, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel and ensuring proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Contributes to maintaining a clean and organized department, including procedure rooms and storage areas.
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Maintains a vigilant and safe working environment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or completion of a radiology certification program.

Experience Requirements:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular standing and walking.
  • Frequent visual acuity for both near and far distances.
  • Regular use of auditory skills for communication and monitoring equipment.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of patients and objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and repetitive movements.

Licensure and Certifications:

State-specific certifications and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required.
