Position Overview:

ECS Limited is seeking a skilled GPR Utility Location / Specialty Technician II to become part of our Mobile team, contributing to a diverse range of projects within our Special Projects Group. This role involves conducting field observations and inspections, as well as engaging in both destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) of materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Operations: Carry out observations, testing, inspections, and sampling of various construction materials, including structural steel placement and reinforcement. Execute tasks in accordance with project specifications under the supervision of senior technicians and project managers. Inspections may also take place in fabrication facilities or on mechanical piping systems and pressure vessels.
  • Testing Methodologies: Perform routine evaluations of structural and reinforcing steel, including welded or bolted connections, utilizing various techniques and testing equipment in compliance with industry standards for documentation and quality assurance. Testing may encompass ground penetrating radar (GPR) structural surveys, material verification, and corrosion assessments.
  • Data Management: Conduct calculations and data analysis based on sampling, test outcomes, and inspections. Participate in drafting and administrative tasks as needed, ensuring proper organization of field equipment and reporting any damaged or missing items to the supervisor.
  • Effective Communication: Maintain consistent communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers, keeping the team updated on changing site conditions and additional testing requests. Relay test results to the project team and provide technical guidance to resolve issues.
  • Professional Development: Engage in training on ECS methodologies for project observations, inspections, and testing. Document findings accurately in line with accepted engineering practices and mentor junior technicians as they advance in their careers and on larger projects.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current ASNT CP 9712 Certification or ECS PQC NDE Certification to Level II in at least two methods, one of which must be a volumetric/advanced method.
  • Ability to lift 40-70 lbs regularly and occasionally lift up to 85 lbs to waist height.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance are required.
  • Must provide reliable transportation for job site use, with mileage reimbursement available.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of destructive and non-destructive testing principles and standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of heavy construction safety practices and procedures.
  • Capability to work at heights.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting engineering and construction plans.
  • Basic familiarity with MS Office applications.
  • If focused on NDE testing, the ability to calibrate NDE equipment is essential.
