Job Summary

Fresenius Medical Care Holdings, Inc. is seeking a skilled and compassionate Acute Patient Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Inpatient Services Hemodialysis Health Care team, you will provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care under the direct supervision of a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse for assigned patients in the dialysis suite in the acute setting.
  • Responsible for reporting and documenting all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN.
  • Promote and assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
  • Support the company's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities.
  • With documented competency and proficiency, set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal replacement therapies.
  • Assure the dialysis machine has been set up, tested, and found to be safe for dialysis treatment in accordance with manufacturer instructions for use and company policy and procedures.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since their last treatment.
  • Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
  • Report any difficulties in cannulation to the FMCNA RN as permitted by state requirements.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to the patient treatment.
  • Calculate and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed.
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including narrow venous limits (NVL 160).
  • Collect, label, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory per facility policy.
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician's order or as directed by the FMCNA RN.
  • Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to the FMCNA RN.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.
  • At least 6 months' experience in a related field (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians) is preferred.
  • Must obtain CCHT within 18 months of hire.
  • Effective communication skills - both verbal and written.
