About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our team at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. As a CRNA, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients.

Job Summary

The CRNA will function as part of the multidisciplinary health team to provide anesthesia care to patients. This includes performing pre-anesthetic screenings, developing anesthesia care plans, and administering anesthetics. The CRNA will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating patients' post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and document results.
  • Develop anesthesia care plans.
  • Select, order, or administer pre-anesthetic medications, anesthetics, drugs, fluids or blood products as necessary.
  • Prepare prescribed solutions and administer local, intravenous, spinal, or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Perform or evaluate the results of diagnostic tests such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Select and prescribe post-anesthesia medications or treatments to patients.
  • Administer post-anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients' cardiovascular systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients' post-surgical or post-anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.
  • Discharge patients to hospital floor or Surgicenter as necessary.
  • Instruct nurses, residents, interns, students or other staff on topics such as anesthetic techniques, pain management and emergency responses.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited CRNA program with Masters of Science in Nursing Degree or Doctorate of Nurse Practice.
  • Current licenses as a Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
  • Current National Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician, APRN and PA providers as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience and change management required.
